Director IT, North America
Description
General Summary: This position is responsible for directing all IS activities in support of the North America business unit. Primary focus areas include collaborating with business unit management, Technology/Business Consultants, various IS functional areas and outside consultants to assess feasibility, determine costs vs. benefits, prioritize the project portfolio, and develop and implement systems plans that support the strategic business and systems objectives. The person in this role will also need to be able to understand the business challenges across multiple disciplines (Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations), formulate strategies and solutions to overcome those challenges, and communicate these strategies and solutions to multiple levels within both the business and IS areas.
Key Work Performed:
* Participate in the formulation of the company*s business application architecture plans, assessing cost and feasibility of system requests and ensuring the plan supports both strategic and near-term needs.
* Operate as Program and Project Manager to implement business solutions, including full-life-cycle management of associated projects using the SAP project roadmap approach (Project Preparation & Planning, Business Blueprint, Realization, Final Preparation, Go-Live and Support).
* Work with finance, procurement, legal departments and various function managers to ensure project costs and schedules are properly estimated and controlled.
* Operate as Portfolio Manager and as advisor to the business unit management on all technology enabled business solutions to support their strategic plans. Meet frequently with business unit management to fully evaluate and define the required business capabilities, translate business capabilities into detailed business requirements, and develop solution alternatives with an understanding of their challenges, provide guidance on technology enablers, and ensure expected customer service levels.
* Integrate activities with other IS departments to ensure the successful implementation and support of project efforts.
* Operate as a general contractor within the IS organization to develop appropriate support for projects from various technology and service departments.
* Maintain knowledge of current industry trends and best practices, in both the process and technology areas.
* Other duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
A. Education:
Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science or Management Information Systems.
B. Experience:
10-12 years of IS experience including development, implementation, and maintenance of an applications environment.
At least 5 years of demonstrated IS project management experience involving multiple major development projects.
At least 5 years of SAP implementation and/or operations experience, including at least 2 full life-cycle implementations.
At least 3 years of experience in a liaison role supporting a business unit group; including involvement in development of strategic plans.
5-8 years of IS experience (operations and/or consulting) in any of the following Chemical, Retail, Consumer Products, or Healthcare industry.
C. Knowledge:
Strong technical knowledge, with hands-on experience managing a computing environment.
Knowledge of business processes and practices in the Chemical, Retail, Consumer Products, or Healthcare industry.

Excellent human resource management skills.
Conceptual knowledge of information technologies and IS project life cycle methodologies.
Knowledge of management practices and techniques.
Knowledge and experience in developing strategic information systems plans.
